Struggling to focus during meditation? Try this transcendent technique

Certified Transcendental Meditation Practitioner discusses the power of TM, how to get started with this practice and how it has changed her life.



As more and more people discover healing practices, different meditation techniques are discovered as well. Certified Transcendental Meditation Practitioner Irene Guyot shares some of her insights on transcendental meditation and how it can be practiced and mastered by anyone.


Often, people argue that they have a lot of trouble expelling all thoughts from their minds or staying completely still with their eyes closed for minutes at a time. This is completely normal when first attempting any type of meditation, especially when living in such a fast-paced day and age.


Transcendental meditation can be a great way to begin practicing meditation because it encourages you to put all of your focus on one mantra. Here is a list of some mantras that can be used during this type of meditation:


  • I think I can, I think I can

  • Om mani padme hum

  • All is well

  • Hare Krishna

  • I am

  • My body is a temple


To choose your own mantra to use during TM, first, ask yourself what it is you need. Allow that to guide you without focusing on your weaknesses, but instead on what facets of life you might be able to improve on.


As discussed in the interview, in order to practice transcendental meditation correctly, Guyot recommends taking a professional course or workshop to be guided through the process of quieting the mind, selecting or curating a personal mantra and learning about the history of meditation and transcendence.


Personal research is recommended, of course, but here are a few courses to learn and/or become certified in transcendental meditation:



It is important to remember that you are able to do whatever you put your mind to, including meditation! No matter your age, religion, background, gender or education level, with enough practice, anyone can master the art of transcendental meditation.
